Export of live animals

 

Many species of animals can be sent by means of air cargo. The delicate transportation always requires advance bookings for the whole transportation route, which may include intermediate landings.

Customers that plan to transport live animals are advised to check the requirements in the destination country regarding import of animals.  Information here at Icelandic Food and Veterinary Authority   

Following rules and guidelines on export of live animals/ house hold pets. 

  • Standard animal cage, either plastic / metal.  (Not made of wood).
  • The cage needs to provide sufficient ventilation.
  • The animal must be able to stand in the cage and be able to make a turn inside.
  • In the cage there needs to be provision for drinking water and it must be possible to add water without the need to open the cage.
  • A food container needs to be either inside the cage or on the outside to make it possible to feed the animal in case of flight delays.
  • The cage needs to be fully marked with name,address & telephone number of consignee and AWB number.

If the animal is a gift then the simpler E-8 Customs form is sufficient.  That form is available from Icelandic Customs Website
