Environmental Policy

Icelandair Cargo is committed to treat the environment with care and we are always looking for ways to minimize the environmental impact of our operation.

Icelandair Cargo operates under the Icelandair Group environmental policy, which can be found here:

Environmental actions

  • Maximize utilization of freighters
  • Taxiing is optimized at the airports
  • Optimal speed and height are selected as well as the shortest possible route
  • Passenger & cargo load factor is maximized and weight of the aircraft minimized (catering and service onboard)
  • CDA – continuous descent approach. ”Green approach”
  • More than 70% of our airway bills are e-AWB, highest in Scandinavia
  • Winglets on Icelandair passenger fleet
  • In the office: common network printers in use, separate waste baskets for office paper

The Kolvidur Fund

The latest addition to our green efforts is a partnership with the Kolviður Iceland Carbon Fund, which brings our customers into the process of making air travel more environmentally friendly.

As a part of buying cargo from us, all of our customers can now choose to offset the carbon emissions generated by their portion of the flight

The objective of the Kolviður Fund is to reduce the concentration of carbon dioxide (CO2) in the atmosphere by increasing the carbon sequestration of forest ecosystems , binding the soil and reducing soil erosion, increasing public awareness and the awareness of companies in regard to greenhouse gas emissions, and promoting education on related issues.
