Icelandair Cargo will begin freighter flight service to Halifax Canada from 7th December.

The plan is to fly once a week between Halifax and Iceland as part of the freighter service to and from New York.

There is a freighter service from Keflavik to New York on Wednesdays and Saturdays but from now on the flight on Wednesdays will make a stop in Halifax on the way from New York to pick up live lobster.   The lobster will be flown to Iceland and further to markets in Scandinavia and Mainland Europe.

"There is a strong market for live lobster from the North-East American Coast to Europe.  Until now we have served this market with the Icelandair passenger aircraft network but now our intention is to increase our market share by offering freighter services.   We also will be offering more space on our European routes" says Gunnar Mar Sigurfinnsson, Managing Director Icelandair Cargo.
